Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.– Psalm 73:25

Miss Lutes

Well, I have officially completed my first two days as an employee of the federal government. No, I'm not a CIA secret agent (how fun would that be?) - I'm a teacher. I don't quite know how I feel about it all yet. Nervous? No, at least not yet. Excited? Maybe. Its hard to relinquish the carefree days of college, the ability to go anywhere and do anything I want, to stay up late and skip my early classes (not too many times, though).

Most of my college friends are still enjoying summer vacation, and I'm already back in school. Some of my college friends are doing cool things like traveling to other countries or going to the Passion worship conference in January. I will still be in middle school. That's kinda tough for me to accept. However, I do know that its time for me to leave college behind and move on. I figured out I will encounter at least 150 6th grade students each day. What an opportunity to impact lives!

The other teachers in my school are great so far. I've made quite a few new friends with the other new teachers in the district. There are three other college graduates working at my school, we've already had good times talking, and sometimes dreaming about what this school year might bring. They are great - I can't wait to build better relationships with them as the year progresses. And, its nice not to be the only person who isn't married with two kids.

I've visited my classroom (that's going to be weird to have MY name on the door!) - threw out a lot of garbage, and I still have a lot of things the other science teachers left behind to sort through and organize. That's a project I think I will actually enjoy. I feel like I've hit the ground running, and I wonder if my life will ever slow down until next summer. I may have to start drinking chai tea or another caffinated beverage on a regular basis to make it through the day.

Well, I've got to wake up early and work the church car wash (yes, I'm still working as an intern as well), eat out with a few of my high school friends, and go to another friend's wedding tomorrow. I can't believe how crazy life can be.

I hope you are all relishing these last few days of summer vacation - sit outside in the shade and read a good book (just for fun) for me!

I missed seeing you last weekend, but I understand.  I'm glad to hear that someone else is starting to get their classroom ready.  I can't believe it's here!  We'll have to swap stories this year.
